Eligibility requirements and applying for the Teacher Induction Scheme
Eligibility
Higher Education Institutions inform us of who is eligible for the Teacher Induction Scheme (TIS). If you have any questions about eligibility for TIS, please contact your Higher Education Institution.
Who is eligible
- Students from Scotland, other parts of the UK and the Republic of Ireland, who are studying at a Scottish Higher Education Institution
- Students from the EU if they:
- hold settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) or
- have applied for settled or pre-settled status but haven’t received a decision yet (a Certificate of Application can be used as proof of a valid application to the EUSS)
Who is not eligible
- People who arrived in the UK after 31 December 2020 are subject to new immigration rules and are not eligible for TIS.
However, students from outside the UK who attended a Scottish Higher Education Institution to complete Initial Teacher Education can follow the Flexible Route in a Scottish school, if they are able to remain in Scotland on completion of their studies.
How to apply
Eligible student teachers can apply for Provisional Registration in November using the Student Application form.
The form asks you to indicate, in preference order, the five Local Authority areas you would be willing to complete your induction year in. Find out more about applying for Provisional Registration.
