You may be able to return to the Register of Teachers if you:
- previously chose to leave the Register of Teachers
- are no longer registered because you did not pay your annual registration fee
- are no longer registered because you did not complete Professional Update
- were removed or refused entry to the register through the Fitness to Teach process
It is a legal requirement for any teacher to be registered with us to teach in a Scottish school. For college lecturers in Scotland, registration with GTC Scotland is part of the agreed national terms and condition of employment.
The current registration fee is £83 for all registrants and covers the period 1 April to 31 March. The fee remains the same irrespective of the point during this period at which you join or leave the Register, and will not be reduced pro rata.
If you completed a teaching qualification in Primary or Secondary Education at a Scottish Higher Education Institution and did not apply for registration with us at the time, please visit our Qualified in Scotland (teacher) page for more information. If you did not submit an application for registration and pay the annual registration fee, you will not have become registered.
