Key people in the induction process
Achieving the Standard for Full Registration is a collaborative process.
Those involved have different roles in supporting, advising and ultimately ensuring requirements are met.
Each provisionally registered teacher’s experience is unique to them, but it usually involves working with people in all or some of the following roles.
Sometimes a person has more than one of these roles.
Provisionally registered teacher
Works towards achievement of the Standard for Full Registration, evidencing progress and sharing that evidence with those who need it.
Supporter
A fully registered teacher who guides the provisionally registered teacher through the induction process. They provide feedback and progress statements. An important part of this role is pastoral support.
Observer
A fully registered teacher who observes the provisionally registered teacher teach and provides feedback about their progress using the Standard for Full Registration as their guide.
Reviewer
A fully registered teacher, usually a headteacher, who assesses the provisionally registered teacher's achievement of the Standard for Full Registration. They make recommendations to GTC Scotland about full registration and other requirements such as extensions and removal of registration.
Probation manager
A leader who has deep knowledge about how to help provisionally registered teachers achieve the Standard for Full Registration. They design associated learning programmes and support all the roles involved in the induction process.
