What is expected of me as a supporter of a provisionally registered teacher
The support of an experienced, fully registered teacher is core to ensuring a supported induction to the profession for every provisionally registered teacher.
A supporter balances pastoral care with support and challenge that assists the provisionally registered teacher’s professional growth where they ultimately achieve the Standard for Full Registration. Supporters often initially engage with a provisionally registered teacher in a mentoring role, becoming over time more of a coach as the provisionally registered teacher’s knowledge, skills and confidence grow.
Effective supporters recognise that their role is predominately to scaffold the development of the provisionally registered teacher’s own professional identity.
