Summary of request
Full request
As a follow-up to my previous FOI requesting numbers of teachers holding physics, biology and chemistry, could you please provide the numbers on the register on 30 September on the following years: 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019?
Response
We refer to your request for information (FOI 25-26/056) dated 18 December 2025 which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
You asked:
“As a follow-up to my previous FOI requesting numbers of teachers holding physics, biology and chemistry, could you please provide the numbers on the register on 30 September on the following years: 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019?”
Our response:
Please note that GTC Scotland operates a current register and not a historic register. We are unable to provide the records you have requested relating to the Register of Teachers in 2019 and 2020 as that information was not reported at the time. As such, we have applied section 17 to these queries as this information is not held.
However, we can provide information related to 2021 and 2022. Please see this information in Table 1 below.
By way of advice and assistance, you referred to FOI 25-26/042 being a previous request we received under FOISA. Due to changes in how we record our data, we are now able to provide you with information we could not provide in that response. Please see this information included in Table 1 below.
