The Independent Scrutineer appointed to supervise the election conduct and preserve the integrity of the election process is Civica Election Services Ltd.

Over the coming months, we will update this page with information about the election and how you can participate.
Seats up for election
- 4 teachers (including headteachers) in primary/nursery schools. 1 seat is reserved for headteachers. All seats are for a 4-year term.
- 3 teachers (including headteachers) in secondary schools for 4 years. One seat is reserved for headteachers. All seats are for a 4-year term.
Candidates elected to the Council will take up office on 2 April 2026.
Please note: There are no vacant seats in either the further education or the universities in Scotland providing programmes of Initial Teacher Education election category in this round of elections.
Nominations
We will open nominations for the GTC Scotland 2025/26 Council election on 18 August 2025. Nomination forms will be available on this page from that date.
Help to shape your profession by standing for election to the Council
The Council makes a positive impact on the working lives of teachers every day. It works in the public interest to realise the vision of GTC Scotland: Trusted Teaching .
The forthcoming election presents an opportunity for you to join the Council, enhance your own professional learning and develop your career by playing a key role in the strategic development and performance management of GTC Scotland.
You will have the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of educational and other backgrounds, develop and strengthen a range of skills and gain a deeper understanding of and contribute to the key issues facing GTC Scotland and the regulation of the teaching profession in Scotland.
About you
With a clear commitment to Scottish education and the wider educational community, you should have a genuine interest in learning more about and shaping what’s going on around you.
You have to be:
- open minded
- able to work constructively with other Council members in addressing sometimes complex issues and making decisions in the public interest
- able to make the time commitment necessary to actively carry out your role as a Council member.
