Student teachers

Student Application: Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme

All applicants for GTC Scotland registration need to be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Student teachers will apply to join the PVG scheme through their Higher Education Institution before taking part in school placements as part of their teaching qualification.

In addition to this, as part of the GTC Scotland registration process, you need to complete an Existing PVG Scheme Member application. This ensures that GTC Scotland is informed should a student teacher be accused or convicted of an offence that may have a bearing on their fitness to teach.  Disclosure Scotland will send you a link to complete an EPVG application when you submit your application for provisional registration. Please keep an eye on your spam/junk folder for the email and note that the link with expire within 7 days.

You will need to complete an Existing PVG Scheme Member application each time you start working for a new employer.

PVG Scheme Membership Statements are not sufficient for GTC Scotland registration purposes as they do not show information that is required in relation to convictions.
