Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges

GTC Scotland maintains Professional Standards for lecturers, underpinned by the themes of values, sustainability and leadership.

These Professional Standards have been developed through partnership work between the College Development Network and GTC Scotland.

They are designed as a benchmark for learning and teaching, and to enhance and promote professional learning.

The Scottish Government gave responsibility for these Professional Standards to GTC Scotland.

Standard for Provisional Registration (Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges)

This standard provides a transitional route to registration for college lecturers who do not yet hold a GTC Scotland-recognised teaching qualification or an equivalent teaching qualification.

GTC Scotland’s Council approved the Standard for Provisional Registration (Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges) in February 2023 and it came into effect on 3 April 2023.
