How to provide proof of registration and qualification

Currently registered

If you are currently registered with GTC Scotland, you, any other regulator or employer can use the Search the Register function to confirm your registration status. This shows:

  • which categories and subjects you hold Full or Provisional Registration in
  • whether a Fitness to Teach flag is present on your record
  • whether you hold the Standard for Headship
  • whether you have been awarded Professional Recognition

Most employers also have access to additional information about your registration through Search the Register (employer).

Previously registered

If you are no longer registered with GTC Scotland, we cannot provide proof of registration. We do not receive information from employers or updates from Disclosure Scotland on your suitability for employment as a teacher or college lecturer.

We are unable to confirm to other teacher regulation agencies or employers that you continue to meet the standards of conduct and competence required to remain on the GTC Scotland Register of Teachers.

If you wish to teach outside of Scotland, you should liaise with the relevant regulators or authorities on how to meet their requirements.

Never registered with GTC Scotland

If you have never registered with GTC Scotland and require confirmation of your teacher qualification, you should contact the relevant Higher Education Institution for a certificate of your qualification.

Request a copy of your registration certificate

A digital copy of your registration certificate is available on MyGTCS. You can download a copy in the ‘My registrations area’, using the ‘Download certificate’ button.

If you need a printed copy of your registration certificate, please get in touch using our contact form.
