Changing colours

Changing the site's background or text colour can be particularly useful for users who find the contrast of the background and text colours causes an uncomfortable glare. To do this you will need to adjust your browser or system settings:

  • Chrome
You can install a browser extension in Chrome to change colours, for example ‘High Contrast’. ‘Midnight Lizard’ or ‘Pro Visu Look’
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
Select the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options", select "Colors" and make changes to text and background colours in the Colors panel. Then choose the “Accessibility” button and tick the box labelled "Ignore colours specified on Web".
  • Microsoft Edge
In your computer’s main menu select “Start” then “Settings” followed by “Ease of Access” then “Colour filters”. You will have a number of options.
  • Firefox
Select the "Tools" menu, select "Options", open the "Content" tab and select "Colors". You can define the colour of text and background from here.
  • Safari
Select the Safari menu, and Preferences. Select Appearance, which is the second option on the right. Under Standard font, select the Select button. Choose your desired font type, size and colour.

Downloading or reading documents

Most documents are available to download as PDFs. Access Adobe can translate PDFs into HTML or text emails which makes them accessible for those using a screen reader.
