Full request

I would be very grateful if you could supply the number of probationer teachers (those on the Teacher Induction Scheme or otherwise completing their probationary year) who have or are due to start in August 2026, broken down by each local authority area in Scotland, and further separated into primary and secondary sectors.

If possible, please provide the data in a tabular format (e.g., spreadsheet or table) listing all 32 local authorities.

Response

We confirm that we hold information in a recorded format falling within the scope of your request. We have provided the number of Teacher Induction Scheme placements offered by each local authority for the 2026/27 registration year in Table 1, below.

This data was extracted on 31 August 2026. Please note that these figures are subject to change over time, due to the addition or amendment of placements by local authorities. Please also note that the date range used represents the placements allocated at the time and may include teachers who deferred or withdrew from the Teacher Induction Scheme after allocation and before the placement began.

Table 1: The number of provisionally registered teachers allocated Teacher Induction Scheme placements in the 2026-27 registration year as at 31 August 2026 broken down by local authority and Primary/Secondary
