How many secondary schools do not currently have a teacher who holds a ‘Physics with Science’ registration? Please could this be listed by local authority?
Response
We refer to your request for information (FOI 25-26/057) dated 18 December 2025 which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
You asked:
“How many secondary schools do not currently have a teacher who holds a ‘Physics with Science’ registration? Please could this be listed by local authority?”
Our response:
Please note that GTC Scotland maintains a professional Register and not an employment-based one. This means that any person registered with GTC Scotland can seek employment as a teacher within Scotland without informing us of where they work. Employment information is self-declared. As we do not hold records on the employment of Physics with Science teachers in every secondary school across Scotland, we have applied section 17(1) of FOISA as this information is not held.
However, by way of advice and assistance, we can advise that every local authority in Scotland has a teacher holding the Physics with Science registration. We can provide the number of registrants as data extracted on 12 January 2026. Please see this information in Table 1 below.
