Please provide me with the number of teachers in who have passed their probationary period that have then left the profession entirely within a) 1 year, b) 2 years, c)3 years, d) 4 years and e) 5 years of qualifying as a teacher.
Response
We refer to your request for information (FOI 25-26/050) dated 28 October 2025 which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act (FOISA).
You requested:
“Please provide me with the number of teachers in who have passed their probationary period that have then left the profession entirely within a) 1 year, b) 2 years, c) 3 years, d) 4 years and e) 5 years of qualifying as a teacher.”
On 25 November 2025 you clarified that this request should be limited to “any data available for 2025 to date” as response FOI 25-26/096 on our Disclosure Log answers the initial scope of your request. Thank you for providing us with this clarification.

Please note that GTC Scotland operates a professional Register and not an employment based one. This means that all individuals who meet the requirements can be registered without being actively employed as a teacher or living in Scotland.
