For each council area in Scotland, I would like you to provide me with the total number of probationers requested for primary and for each individual secondary-level subject for the academic year 2025/26. I would also like you to provide me with the total number of probationers actually allocated to each council for primary and for each individual secondary-level subject for the academic year 2025/26.
Response
We refer to your request for information (FOI 25-26/029) dated 22 July 2025 which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
You requested
For each council area in Scotland, I would like you to provide me with the total number of probationers requested for primary and for each individual secondary-level subject for the academic year 2025/26. I would also like you to provide me with the total number of probationers actually allocated to each council for primary and for each individual secondary-level subject for the academic year 2025/26. I would like this information provided as a spreadsheet.
Our response
We have collected information on the number of Teacher Induction Scheme placements offered by each local authority for the 2025/26 registration year and have provided this in Table 1 in the enclosure accompanying this response. This data was extracted on 19 May 2025. These figures are subject to change over time due to the addition or amendment of placements by local authorities.
We have also collected information on the number of Teacher Induction Scheme allocations to each local authority for the 2025/26 registration year and have provided this in Table 2 in the enclosure accompanying this response. This data was extracted on 19 May 2025. Please note that the date range used in the enclosures represent the placements allocated at the time and may include teachers who deferred or withdrew from the Teacher Induction Scheme after allocation and before the placement began.
