Full request

I am submitting a new FOI request for all information held in relation to the GTCS's Fitness to Teach Threshold Policy in relation to this policy being approved as is by the Lord President only. If not approved by the Lord President please confirm this as I will accept that there is no information to disclose. If approved, I require a copy of the information held by the GTCS in relation to the Lord Presidents approval.

Response

I refer to your request for information dated 1 March 2024 (FOI 23 - 24 / 95) for information on the current Fitness to Teach Threshold Policy which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act (FOISA).

Specifically, you asked if the Fitness to Teach Threshold Policy was approved by the Lord President. I can confirm that there is no requirement for the Lord President to do so and as such there are no records of this Policy being approved by them. As such, I have applied section 17(1)(b) of FOISA.

However, as part of our duty to provide advice and assistance under section 15 of FOISA, I can confirm that the Fitness to Teach Rules must be approved by the Lord President and were so approved in June 2017.

I hope this information is helpful. If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may contact informationgovernance@gtcs.org.uk to request GTCS conduct a review of this decision. You should describe the original request and explain your grounds of review. You have 40 working days from receipt of this decision to submit a review request.
