Professional Recognition for College Lecturers

GTC Scotland offers a suite of Professional Learning Awards which celebrate, promote and encourage professionalism and professional learning at all stages of a teaching professional's career. The awards also celebrate the leadership of learning cultures in which teaching professionalism can thrive and bring about real impact.

College lecturers registered with GTC Scotland can apply for Professional Recognition in an area of accomplished expertise.

Professional Recognition aligns with the teachers' Standard for Career-Long Professional Learning. This Standard is closely matched to features of the Scottish Framework for Masters in Education and describes the advanced professional knowledge and pedagogical expertise that registered teachers develop and maintain as they continue to progress in teaching and across the education profession. A teacher may also choose to reflect against aspects of the Standards for Leadership and Management and, for lecturers in the college sector, the Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland's Colleges (Scottish Government 2018).

Although an award can be made to a college lecturer, this award is under development as part of the college lecturer registration programme and more sector specific enhancements (if required) will be made to the application and to GTC Scotland related processes.
