About the programme

Supporting Inclusive practice through Practitioner Enquiry aims to provide candidates with the tools, knowledge and understanding necessary to enable them to lead and coordinate support for children and young people with additional support needs. This includes support for parents, carers, school colleagues and third sector services. Inclusion is at the heart of the course aims, with a strong commitment to all children being present, participating, supported, and achieving. We aim for each candidate to be empowered to create the organisational conditions for improvements in culture, systems, and practice through focussing on the 5 key roles of an Additional Support for Learning teacher, which are defined as:

  • Consultation with colleagues, external agencies, parents, etc.
  • Planning learning and teaching to aid overcoming learning barriers
  • Identification and assessment of barriers to learning
  • Partnership working with specialist services
  • Contributing to professional development and sharing expertise

Changes to practice in this endeavour will be informed by and impact measured through practitioner enquiry which is woven throughout this course.
