What are we consulting on?

Maintaining a register of teachers and determining who is eligible to join and remain on it based on set criteria is a core part of our role as a professional regulator. The current Registration and Standards Rules set out GTC Scotland’s registration criteria, ongoing registration requirements and how the Register operates.

We are consulting on revisions to these rules. The changes we are proposing are largely administrative and are intended to modernise the rules, given they are now over 10 years old. This will bring them into line with contemporary requirements and practices, as well as our refreshed policy brand and messaging.

The deadline for responses is 5pm on Tuesday 15 December 2026
