We are the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland), the independent regulator for teachers in Scotland. We work in the public interest to enhance trust in teachers by setting, upholding and promoting high standards. Our role is set out in law.

Most of our people choose to primarily work from home but office space is available if preferred. You will be expected to travel to our office in Edinburgh to attend collaborative events and as the role requires.

Annual leave entitlement is a generous 42 days (294 hours).

Appointment is for a 4-year term to 1 April 2030.
Commitment
Attendance involves a commitment ranging between 4 and 12 days per annum. Council meetings are held at our office in Edinburgh and committee meetings are held online

We are looking to appoint lay people to serve on our Council.

As a lay person applicant, you must not be, nor have ever been, registered with GTC Scotland; and not hold a qualification that would make you eligible for registration with GTC Scotland.

  1. The closing date is midnight on Sunday 9 November 2025.
  2. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified by Friday 14 November 2025. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified on this date.
  3. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 November 2025. Applicants are advised to hold these dates in their diaries.
