Introduction

Our Register updates in real time and provides unique data on teachers registered in Scotland. Sharing this information helps inform decisions affecting the teaching profession. This is the third year we have published this data, which is intended to support teacher supply planning and activity.

The report includes findings from our survey of teachers who left the Register, including new equalities data collected from 1 April 2025.

Our data complements other sources on teacher numbers, recruitment and retention, adding insight to discussions about trusted teaching in Scotland.

The report compares Register data from 31 March 2023, 2024 and 2025 with data from 31 March 2026 to show movement and variation over time.

Publishing this report annually helps us identify trends and, with three years of data, draw conclusions and make recommendations.

Read alongside our Annual Reports and Accounts, this report gives a broader view of our core work.
