Archive: 2012 Professional Standards
Refreshed and restructured Professional Standards were enacted on 2 August 2021.
These materials will help you to understand the changes to the Professional Standards and the landscape in which these took place.
The Professional Standards for Teachers were first established in 2000. They were reformed in 2012 and enacted in 2013 as a reconceptualised model of teacher professionalism supported by the introduction of Professional Update.
The discussion to review the 2012 Professional Standards began in 2017 with teachers across Scotland actively engaged in shaping the Professional Standards 2021.
Annual Lecture – Professor Graham Donaldson
Professor Graham Donaldson joined GTC Scotland for our Annual Lecture 2021, during which we launched the Professional Standards 2021 and Professor Donaldson emphasised the importance of professional learning.
