Home > Teacher Journey > Teacher Journey The path of a teacher's journey at the beginning of their career goes through the early phase of Initial Teacher Education and onto a probationary period. The next phase of career-long professional learning can last a career as a teacher continues to advance their knowledge and pedagogical expertise. There is also the leadership and management phase for those in, or aspiring to, formal leadership roles. No matter which phase you are in we have created the following interactive area to assist you as you navigate through a career in teaching. Click a colour to select the phase you want to view About Towards the end of your course, the university requires student teachers to complete a Teacher Education profile which asks students to identify areas of strength in the Standard for Provisional Registration and areas for development in the Standard for Full Registration. This profile should be completed in conjunction with your university tutor. Your ITE (Student) Profile is available through your MyGTCS account. The Standard for Provisional Registration specifies what is required of a student teacher at the end of their Initial Teacher Education in order to gain provisional registration with us. It is the first in a suite of Standards which provide a framework for the professional development of teachers throughout their careers. Its education system is distinctly different from other parts of the United Kingdom. Political responsibility for education at all levels is vested in the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government's Learning Directorate, which is part of the Learning and Justice Directorate. State schools are governed and operated by local authorities which act as Education Authorities. There are also a number of independent privately run schools in Scotland, many of which come under the umbrella of the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS). In addition there are schools in the independent sector who come under the umbrella organisation of Education through Care Scotland (EtCS) and these schools offer day and residential education for children and young people with a range of significant and complex additional support needs aged 5-18 years old.
