Register of Teachers

One of our core responsibilities is to maintain a register of teachers in Scotland. This database contains the name, contact details, registration number, registration status, and qualifications of every teacher qualified to teach in a local authority school in Scotland.

We use this information in a number of ways including:

  • compiling statistics for the Scottish Government
  • carrying out equality and diversity monitoring
  • informing other teaching regulators required to carry out checks
  • informing employers or prospective employers about a teacher's registration status

For further information about how we may use the information we hold on the Register visit our legal page.

Members of the public

The public have a right to know and be reassured that teachers are suitably qualified and fit to teach. They can Search the Register to check a teacher's current registration status.

Local authority employers

Local authority employers have access to additional information and may use this to carry out simple checks to verify a teacher's registration status or qualifications.

This database is searchable online. Search the Register.
