Further Education Lecturers: Apply for Registration

While it is not currently a legal requirement for Further Education lecturers to be registered with GTCS, registration offers a range of benefits that FE lecturers can benefit from.

For more information on these benefits, and for more information on how to apply, choose the category that applies to you from the list below.

For teachers not registered with GTC Scotland

Further Education lecturers who qualified in Scotland

If you were awarded a Teaching Qualification (Further Education) from a Scottish University you may be eligible for registration.

If you are awarded registration in Further Education this does not mean that you will be able to teach in local authority primary or secondary schools. Registration in Primary Education or Secondary Education will not be awarded on the basis of a Teaching Qualification (Further Education).

For teachers not registered with GTC Scotland

Further Education lecturers who qualified in the UK or Rest of World (not EU/EEA or Switzerland)

We welcome applications from FE lecturers qualified in the UK or the rest of the world. Before completing your application form, please make sure you have read the information about the assessment process.

Applications for registration from FE lecturers qualified elsewhere in the UK or the rest of the world (not EU/EEA or Switzerland) are assessed against our Registration and Standard Rules and the Statement of Principles and Practice. These documents can be downloaded below:

If you are awarded registration in Further Education this does not mean that you will be allowed to teach in local authority primary and secondary schools in Scotland. Registration in Primary Education or Secondary Education will not be awarded on the basis of a Teaching Qualification (Further Education).

Further Education lecturers who are fully qualified in an EU/EEA Member State (not UK) or Switzerland should complete the application form for "Teachers who are fully qualified in an EU/EEA Member State (not UK) or Switzerland".
