About Registration
Any teacher teaching in a Scottish local authority school has to be registered with GTC Scotland. Being registered not only allows someone to teach but provides assurances to head teachers, parents and children that the teacher meets a national standard of teaching.
The cost of the Initial Registration Fee is currently £60. Once you are registered there is an Annual Registration Fee, currently £45, which is also due for payment every April.
Anyone seeking to work with children or protected adults will have to apply to join the PVG Scheme in order to be eligible to take up a post either in a paid or voluntary capacity.
Our Teacher Registration Department are responsible for processing thousands of applications for registration each year from students, those returning to teaching and teachers qualified outside Scotland.
Eligibility
To be eligible for registration in Scotland you must have a relevant degree and a recognised teaching qualification at SCQF level 9 or above.
Teachers qualified outside Scotland
Teachers who have gained their teaching qualification in another country can't automatically teach in a Scottish local authority school. They need to apply for registration and may have to undertake a period of probation.
Visit our Information for teachers qualified outside Scotland pages for more information.
