GTC Scotland launches a consultation on Framework on Teacher Competence
We have launched a consultation on proposed changes to our Code of Practice on Teacher Competence (CPTC), which will, in future, be known as the Framework on Teacher Competence (FTC).
The FTC sets out the definition of teacher competence in terms of the Standard for Full Registration (SFR), which every teacher in Scotland is required to meet. The Framework, which seeks to maintain standards of teacher competence, sets out the steps and process for dealing with cases of both short-lived and longer-term underperformance.
The amendments proposed to the FTC arise from the legislative change which will come into force on 02 April 2012, making GTCS the world's first fully independent professional body for teaching.
Chief Executive, Anthony Finn said:
"The Framework on Teacher Competence is an important document that offers guidance to teachers and employers about teacher competence and underperformance. We believe that listening to the views of the education community on our proposals will contribute significantly to the relevance and quality of the Framework.
"This is an important time for GTCS as we work towards becoming the world's first independent professional body for teaching. These changes are part of this development and we look forward to hearing the views of other stakeholders on the new Framework."
