Student to probationer
Each year we process more than 2,000 students onto the Register of Teachers and, for most of these, this means a place on the Teacher Induction Scheme.
The transition from being a student to being a probationer can be challenging but our Student Admin team do everything they can to ensure that this takes place with as few problems as possible.
Below is an outline of how we manage the process and what you can expect as you move from student to probationer. Please note that these dates can be subject to change:
| Date | Activity |
| October | Universities send us details of the students undertaking courses of initial teacher education who are due to graduate the following Summer. |
| November/ December |
All students are required to complete their student application form and select the 5 local authorities in which they would like to complete their induction placement or,alternatively, opt for the payment waiver option. At this stage all students go through the relevant criminal records check. |
| End of May |
Local authority personnel are notified of the numbers of students entering their local authority. Students are notified by email of their allocated authority. |
| July |
Pass lists are received from each university. Those students who have passed their course are then required to pay their initial registration fee of £60.00 (if all of the relevant paperwork is in place). At this point students become provisionally registered. |
| August | Probationers take up their induction placements and start completing their online TIS profile. |
