Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

The Scottish Government implemented the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme on 28 February 2011. From that date, anyone employed in regulated work will have to be a PVG Scheme member, this includes teachers.

Students need to be PVG Scheme members and the GTCS will facilitate this as part of the registration process. The biggest difference for students will be the charge of £59, which has been set by the Scottish Government, this fee will have to be paid at the time of application.

We will send you a pack containing a PVG application form, along with a letter advising you what the next steps are.

In summary they are:

  • Students will receive a PVG application form.
  • Students will complete the form and return with 3 photocopies of ID, payment details, a signed declaration printed from the online application and a disability form if applicable.
  • GTCS will process the forms, including payment of £59. The forms are sent to Disclosure Scotland.
  • Disclosure Scotland processes the application and decides if a person will become a Scheme member and the GTCS will be notified of this decision.

When you submit your PVG Scheme application please send us your printed declaration.
