50th anniversary

It is incredible to think that GTCS is now 50 years old – nearly as old as me! Over those 50 years the organisation has evolved into what we see now. A major and highly significant influence in Scottish education through accreditation of teacher education courses and Professional Recognition, the development of Professional Update and the ever-developing role of teacher regulation.

Over the period GTCS has developed strong and positive partnerships with all involved in the education of our young people. GTCS works closely with Scottish Government, Education Scotland, professional teacher organisations, local authorities and many more to ensure we work together for the benefit of the system and more importantly the young people of Scotland. This close working is not always straight forward but is the envy of many of our international friends.

I am sure the next 50 years will continue to see GTCS evolve and develop further. I am also certain that, whatever challenges have to be faced, the combined efforts of GTCS professional staff and GTCS Council members will be able to find ways forward.

GTCS – happy birthday and here’s to the next 50 years!
