50th anniversary

GTCS Competition

How do you think a classroom will look in 50 years?

About the competition

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of GTCS, we're running a competition that asks you to creatively explore what a classroom will be like in 50 years' time.

As part of the partnership between Teaching Scotland magazine and the Scottish Children’s Book Awards, we have some great prizes up for grabs.

  • Top prize: £1,500 worth of children's and young adult fiction books plus the chance to be featured in the summer issue of Teaching Scotland magazine in 2016.
  • Second prize: £150 book vouchers
  • Third prize: £100 book vouchers
  • Fourth prize: £50 book vouchers

All prizes will be awarded directly to a school or educational establishment rather than to an individual.

What we’re looking for

Submissions should creatively explore what a classroom will be like in 50 years' time. Entries may be submitted by individuals or by a teacher on behalf of a whole class, for example.

Questions to explore:

  • Will we still have 'real' teachers?
  • Will there be books?
  • Will there still be schools?
  • How will pupils learn?
  • What sort of technology will we have?
  • What will Scotland be like by then – will our climate be the same for example?

Entries could be in the form of:

  • a story
  • a collage
  • a cartoon strip
  • 'a day in the life' of a pupil or teacher
  • a video or animation.

However, entries need not be restricted to this list and the competition is open for pupils and teachers to explore the idea and present it in whatever form they feel works best.

How to enter

The submission process opens on 2 June 2015 and will close on 31 January 2016.

The competition is open to anyone resident in Scotland. Entrants should specify which school, nursery or other educational establishment the entry is being submitted from.

Submissions should be emailed, where possible, to the Teaching Scotland Editor at:

editor@gtcs.org.uk

They may also be sent by post to the following address:

Teaching Scotland
The General Teaching Council for Scotland
Clerwood House
96 Clermiston Road

A panel made up of at least three individuals will decide on the winning entries.

Judging will take place in February and the winners will be notified in early March 2016.
