    Location of Non Contact Time

Are probationers subject to the same rights as fully registered teachers under the McCrone agreement in that they may choose the location of their non class contact work? I am being put under pressure to work a 0.8 week and have been told by management that I must remain in school to cover any staff absence. The other teachers in the school are allowed to work from home.

The issues that you raise are contractual issues and should be taken to your local authority and/or union if you are unable to get a satisfactory response from your school.

If you are on the TIS you should not be working a .8 – you should be on a maximum of a .7 contact time and have .3 CPD.

If you have concerns with your timetable you should discuss them with the school, Local Authority Probation Manager and/or the GTCS Probation Department probation@gtcs.org.uk to ensure that your timetable is acceptable.

Your 0.3 CPD/planning and preparation time should not be used to cover classes.  You should only be asked to cover classes if you are below the maximum 0.7 class contact time (ie. 0.55-0.7).  Aside from our responsibility to use the 0.3 for CPD/planning and preparation remember that probationer teachers are paid significantly less than fully registered teachers so don't think you are being petty by disputing how your time is used.
