    Book Group

We have been awarded a grant to set up and run a book group with upper primary children, aimed at boys who are keen to read but may not encounter opportunity or resources at home. It's very exciting and we can't wait to get started!

Does anyone have experience of this sort of thing, so we might avoid any hidden pitfalls?

I only have experience with reluctant boy readers (paired reading). I found that they were keen on the books they chose themselves rather than the teacher's choice. This may be something to consider for at least some of the books.
Able readers I have found like sets of books by the same author.

Thanks Janice. My plan is to begin with my choice, but to lead on to them making their own. I suspect though that they will have little knowledge of the range available or authors beyond the usual, and we'll have to do some work on how to choose a book they are likely to enjoy.
