Hello everyone,

my question is with regards to the probationers' online profiles. I have just completed my Induction year and gained full registration and was wondering whether I should download/print all the info from my online profile, or whether I will be able to use it as a fully registered teacher and add any CPD - thus using the GTCS online profile as my CPD portfolio.

Hello,

How does the pay work over the summer holidays? The probationers in my area have heard different things. A full pay for July then two weeks at the end of August? Or June being the last pay, and getting an extra 6 weeks pay in that? And even that June's pay is our last and there is nothing after this. Any advice on this would be helpfull, thank you!

When can we start applying for jobs?

Please could you advise where I can see example of CPD portfolio?

I am confused and I do not have idea what kind of documents I should put into my CPD portfolio and how it should look like. I found only general information.

Self Evaluation Materials

In the Induction Year Guidelines for 2009-10, there are references to Self Evaluation Materials/Templates on the GTCS site. No URL is given however, and I'm having trouble finding anything on the site.

It is recommended that these materials are used in preparation for the Checkpoint 1 submission, so I need to gain access to them asap. Can you help?

Unknown stage- any ideas?

I was in Portugal on the induction day which was unfortunate but called home to find out my school. I then called the school to find out my stage but could only leave a message with the receptionist. Since then I have called, written, emailed and tried popping into the school but I cannot get in contact with anyone. I feel at a disadvantage as I would love to start preparing but as I don't know what stage I will be teaching there's a limit to what I can do.

alternative jobs/routes if no teaching post is available

What if any, are the options for other available employment still connected with education. Or further development i.e. training. I heard recently that a primary school teacher was employed in seconadry school giving careers advice.

Also how to get involved in the role of transition from primary to secondary.

I would of course prefer a teaching post, however I do think if would be more beneficial to stay with the environment of teaching and learning.

Lastly, there is lots of discussion that only cluster and area cover will be interviewed (SOuth lanarkshire Council) where does this leave the probationers and what is the current job situation like?

Location of Non Contact Time

Are probationers subject to the same rights as fully registered teachers under the McCrone agreement in that they may choose the location of their non class contact work? I am being put under pressure to work a 0.8 week and have been told by management that I must remain in school to cover any staff absence. The other teachers in the school are allowed to work from home.

0.7 timetable

Is registration included in the 0.7 class contact time for secondary probationer teachers? There seems to be some disagreement over this. An SSTA leaflet states that it is included but I cannot find their source (it doesn't seem to specify in McCrone). In my school it seems to be included as an additional duty over and above the 0.7 class contact time. Can anyone clarify?

Teaching a 0.7 Timetable

I am unclear about how the 0.7 teaching timetable is actually transformed into time spent teaching and the amount of time out which should be received for planning and other CPD experiences. I am currently receiving one day off during the week for my 0.3. I have heard other probationers speak of receiving a day and a half out and I am a little unclear about what I am entitled to, taking into account the 2hr 15min of non-teaching time when pupils are being taught by a specialist, and the fact that pupils leave at 12.15 on a Friday (Friday afternoons usually consist of staff meetings etc).

Can you provide me with a definitive answer?

Probation Timetable

When a council employs a probationer in the school are the school meant to be reliant upon that probationer to deliver the subjects timetable, or should they be over and above what is required, so that for example if the school didnt have the probationer there, they could still timetable all the classes to teachers within the department? Trying to scoure McCrone for an answer but no luck.

Hi, Can you tell me if it is common practice for primary probationers to teach full time during their last term ie Easter to summer?

This happened in our school last year and is happening from March this year. We have staff absence again this year and it is happening again.

Organising Resources

Throughout my teaching practice I watched carefully to see how different teachers organised their resources. Now, a few months into my Induction Year, I still cannot decide which system is best and end up carrying boxes around, large bags with marketing and spend hours labelling and transferring items. What is the best way to sort this problem out?

I failed my fourth year placement and will now graduate in November. Do i need to re-register with you to be placed in Aug '08 or will my details and LA choices be kept as tehy are?
