I qualified as a primary teacher in 2008, after a slow start waiting for that supply phone call - I got my first call just before the October break for one day. After that it was sort of dribs and drabs of supply work. Finally I got two days of supply work from a school and that finish in the summer of 2009. As well as that I worked in a nursery part time (16 hours) for ten months which was good experience but I found out very quickly that it wasn't the job for me.

Now as of Jan 2010, I am employed in the volantary sector. I never thought it possible that I would ever get a job let alone one like this. I am developing and implimenting a project delivering alcohol awareness sessions aimed at Primary 7's in the Hamilton and Blantyre area. The project is up and running as of August 2010 and I have 3 schools already interested. It's still teaching with the freedom of working in lots of different schools and working with different pupils. One day is never the same as the next.

All I am saying is there is light at the end of the tunnel, it took me a while to get here. I would have never have seen this coming. Just goes to show you don't have to be a teacher, you can do other things with your teaching degree.

I qualified last summer and was lucky to get some supply work in the school I did my probation in. That finished in March and I have had nothing since.

I am taking the alternative route having qualified this summer in Scotland.I am finding it verydifficult to get work and starting to worry. What are the experiences of others? How long did it take?
