Ahh just checked on google maps, it's going to take an hour and a half to get to Old Meldrum from mines =/....to get there for 9am in rush hour....hello leaving at 6.30! Not pleased! I don't understand why when Aberdeenshire is so big why there's only one location for the induction day! Surely Aberdeen city would have actually been more central for everyone! Ok rant over haha!

That's great you like your school Marianne...is it in Port Elphinstone?

Marianne, that sounds great! I was up for a wee drive around the area a few weeks ago, it is really pretty.. Liam, I was also at Edinburgh, just the PGDE French course. I phoned the school and I'm going in to visit on Friday- apparently there is a Maths probationer as well as us two.. It's a nice village, I've been before, but seems pretty small. I have no idea where I'm going to live, have you actually found somewhere in Ballater? I thought about living in Aberdeen or Banchory and commuting but there isn't actually a bus which gets to Aboyne early enough! So yeah! I'm actually from Dundee; so not too far but not near either. Are you from the area?

Hi all, went to visit my school today, lovely purpose built community centre with library, nursery, gym, football fields. Just lovely. Got a lot to take in yet, but it was good to see and have an idea. I found my place on gumtree, so thanks again to Sarah, it worked out for me, and the commute on that A90 is AMAZING! I'll be driving to Old Meldrum from Port Elphinstone for anyone who wants a lift. I can go through Inverurie. If you haven't already checked it out, it has a CAMRA award winning pub, but unfortunately I'll have to get back to pick up my baby. There's accommodation though! See you all there!

Hey there! I have been allocated to Aboyne academy as well! What uni did you go to? What is your subject? It is apparently a really nice wee place actually!

Elizabeth If I was you, I wouldn't rent Arbroath for travelling to Laurencekirk because it's a long slow road up from there, it's not dual carriageway - from Arbroath to Laurencekirk you would be at least 30-40 minutes in the morning! I know it's hard to rent around Laurencekirk area - you should try Stonehaven, it's North of Laurencekirk but it's dual carriageway the whole way down and would probably take 15 minutes in the morning! Montrose is also an option, I live between Montrose and Laurencekirk - it takes about 20 minutes in the morning because you get caught at the junction to get over to the Laurencekirk side of the dual carriageway but there are ways to avoid that once you know the area! Hope that helps a little bit!

And Liam, you should ask the school about places to rent because hopefully previous probationers have had the same problem...and technically you could travel out from Aberdeen to Aboyne, although then you'd have the price of rent and travel =/

I'm more annoyed at the fact the induction day is up at Old Meldrum - because I'm the tail-end of Aberdeenshire it's miles away!

If anymore help is needed on renting, I'm here all week haha - bills are in the post =P

Um well there seems to be no where to rent in Laurencekirk but there are loads of flats in Montrose and Arbroath and relatively cheap too. My sister has jujust moved to Arbroath so hoping for somewhere near there. Couldn't find anything on gumtree thanks tho. Where is your probation?

This is a long shot but does anyone know of anyone moving near fraserburgh or that sort of area (about 15/20 miles ish) thats moving out there and looking for a flatmate?!

Well I've not been there for 6 six years so I suppose the department will have changed but in my day the teachers were lovely!

Are you going to be renting around the area? It can be quite hard to find somewhere to rent but I did see a flat in Laurencekirk on gumtree a while ago to rent, so you could try there!
