Can someone please advise what the position is regarding Team Teaching in Probationary Year.

Allocated council swap for August 2010 probationers

Hi guys,

I have just recently finished the PGDE(Primary) and am about to embark upon the probationary year starting August this year. I have been allocated to Midlothian council but would have preferred Edinburgh City. I have been in contact with the GTCS and they say my only option for changing is if I find somebody who has been given Edinburgh City but would prefer Midlothian to do a straight swap with me. Hence the reson I am posting this notice...is there anybody out there who would be willing to swap with me? Let me know if you are that person.

Probation year allocation

I am a Business Studies probationer and have been allocated Scottish Borders but would like City of Edinburgh Council or Midlothian. Can anyone let me know if they would be willing to switch? I'm not sure if it's even possible as having read the GTCS website, you can only switch by first turning down the local authority you have been allocated which I don't really want to risk doing unless I know someone else is in the same boat as me.

Council swap for 2011 probationers

I've been allocated Fife for my probationary year starting in August 2011. Because of family commitments it is going to be really difficult for me to travel to Fife every day, as I live in Edinburgh.

My only option is to find someone who would be interested in swapping. Perhpas someone has been allocated Edinburgh ans is either not taking up their place here or would be interested in going to Fife. If so could you please let me know. I know it's a long shot ...

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE HELP

I am a probationer, completing my probation through the Alternative Route. I graduated last year but postponed my probation as I had a baby. I know going down this route means I need to support myself but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me before I start and if anyone knows what forms etc I need to keep a record of. I know whats expected of me but obviously as I won't have a mentor I am not 100% sure what the GTC are looking for.

I am currently a probationer who wants to eventually (the sooner the better) move abroad to teach. I am looking into NZ, Australia and Canada. Does anyone have any tips or useful information on how to go about this because I know it can be a very complicated process with visas etc...

Supply teaching as CPD

Finally got onto the LA supply list in November. I've averaged 3-4 day weeks since and I'm learning so much. The experience has been so valuable. All stages, different school situations, even Behaviour Support jobs have come my way. And what a boost to the self esteem to get called back. Just what I needed.

Help!

I'm an experienced teacher from Scotland, who trained in England, and have been working south of the border for 8 years. I want to move back home (Glasgow in particular but becoming less fussy) but have been hampered by the current job market. I could do with some advice on how to get my foot in the door. Has anyone out there been through the same ordeal and have some words of wisdom, or of hope...?

Book Group

We have been awarded a grant to set up and run a book group with upper primary children, aimed at boys who are keen to read but may not encounter opportunity or resources at home. It's very exciting and we can't wait to get started!

Does anyone have experience of this sort of thing, so we might avoid any hidden pitfalls?

Mentor help

I am about to embark on my second year as a mentor

To help me give the best support to the probationer teacher i am asking as many teachers as I can, who have just finished their first year to let me pick their brain!

What should I have ready for my probationer starting? What's the best piece of advice you would offer? What makes a great/a poor mentor? Would you have liked the chance to come into school in the June before you started to eg help with trips, take part in staff meetings where the new term was being discussed?

I appreciate any time you can give to help me.
