    Probationer Pay

Hold on, this could get a little complicated!

I'm a probationer working in East Dunbartonshire. My pay is calculated as (20437/261) per day. This is the annual salary divided by 261, the number of weekdays (monday to Friday) in a calander year. Each month I am payed for the number of weekdays in that month. However, my contract started in mid-August and finishes at the end of the Summer term (late June) so I will not get a full year's pay. I've heard some local authority contracts run for the full 12 months so presumable pay more. Is it normal (or allowed) for some local authroities to pay less than the full salary or is my information incorrect and no LAs pay the full year's salary to NQTs? If the latter is the case then should this not be made more explicit when recruiting teachers and claiming to offer a "guaranteed year" with a salary of 20,437?

    How you doing?

Read your statement and it differs from my 'probationer contract' with South Lanarkshire. Firstly, I am contracted for a full 12 month year, which means come June, I can expect an additional top up, in that month's wage, to carry me through the month of July. You should be building up your holiday pay through each month. The annual amount i get differs from you, in that I am in receipt of a salary which is just under 21,000 (20,9something) and rises to just over 21,000 come March. The details of your contract should be listed on this site, and as far as I'm aware, it is the same contract for every probationer no matter their Local Authority. You should dig out the contract you signed with the Council and check it off against the stipulated probationer contract with the GTC.

Hi, will it not be the case we are paid as normal in July instead of a top up payment in June?

    Re: Probationer Pay

When I started, I got half a months pay at then end of August.  I have taken it that I will receive my usual pay in June and July then half a months pay in August.  This would make sense especially if you are staying with the same local authority.

Lucky you!!! A contract....I don't think GCC have heard of these things for fully qualified teachers let alone probationers!!

I, too, was under the impression that June would be our last pay packet.

We (East Ayrshire) were told last week that we will receive a larger pay packet in June.  This will be our last payment and will include payment for July and half of August.  I would presume that this will be the same for all Local Authorities.

For South Lanarkshire, it's normal pay in June but July is the full months pay plus what we are due for August.

    Re: Probationer Pay

Each local authority seems to operate differently but we all get the same amount of money in the end. Either way, the days you work means you get accrued holiday pay so whether the LA pay the summer holiday in a lump sum in June or whether they give you the salary you've been used to in June and July and a wee half wage in August, it adds up to be the same. GCC I believe DO have contracts for probationers. Glasgow sent me a document with the dates of employment along with terms and conditions of employment. I no longer have the document as I was switched to a different LA at the last minute. The joys :)
