Overseas trained teachers

Hey there. I m wondering if anyone is from overseas like me and can give advice. I am a SEN Pedagogue from Germany, fully qualified there with several years teaching experience in different sectors, schools and age groups. when I came to the UK 3 years ago I tried to get my QTS. After a long fight I am provisional registred with the GTCS for Primary SEN (in England I am just an instructor which is worse).

Since 2 years I try to find a post in order to gain QTS. I got not 1 interview for a post. I am very frustrated as I enjoyed teaching... Any ideas what I need to do? At the moment I m back in England working in my second profession as Social Worker.

Alternative Route

Is anyone out there completing their probation through the Alternative Route?? I startled last August and did manage to get a temporary part time contract for the whole of last year which takes me up to about 90 days. Just wondering if anyone else is doing it/has done it and how you've managed!

Timetable Contact Time

Hello,

I' ve been given my timetable, and have worked out that I only have 0.63 class contact time. Does anyone else have a similar timtable? I've checked with the PT and others, and they have said it will be OK as the 0.82 that was proposed is the maximum limit; not what you need to do.Anyone else in a similar situation?

Hi, I found out a month ago that I was being sent to Fife for my probation year. I ticked the anywhere box and was happy to go anywhere they wanted to send me. However, I am yet to be allocated a school. I have been told I am one of 5 probationers yet to be allocated a school. Just wondering if there is anyone in the same situation as me? Just think they are leaving things a bit late what with the term ending next week and a visit to the school (wherever that may be!) still needs to be done.

Helllooo, I'm doing primary and ticked the box and have been allocated Aberdeenshire. Really excited but a bit nervous as haven't found anyone else who is heading there! Our induction isn't until August so would be nice to hear from anyone before then so I'm not too scared!! I'm from near Edinburgh originally :) Hope to hear from people soon!

Extension

Is it true that the local authority is obliged to find a placement for your extension period? My probation manager told me I would transfer to the Alternative Route to carry out my extension and would have to arrange supply work myself.

at the moment, the SITE profiles we made as students is all that's coming up on my page.

GTCS registration fee??

Hello,

I got a letter from council saying that I had to pay the GTCS registration fee before the start of term otehrwise I couldnt start my probation.

Does anyone how to pay this, or even how to check it has/has not been paid.

My results came through last week and I passed, so I thought it would update on the page automatically?

Any info would be great!

Mentor Help.

I have taken on the role of Mentor which has been one of the most valualble experiences of my career.

I mentored for one year and then, due to circumstances in the school, I did not mentor this year. I used the time to reflect on the experience of last year and to read as much as I could from the probationers point of view, particu;arly the GTCS website and TESS. I also spent time with the Probationers we have in school this year.

I would really appreciate it if you would help me to be a better mentor by posting some of the ways in which you feel a mentor can support a probationer.

What can I have ready for her/him as soon as they walk through the door? What advice would you offer? Which websites and publications would you direct them to?
