  • Where has the time gone ??

What a crazy few weeks. The time just seems to be running away from me. I thought I would have had more time to write on here but that has not been the case.

Looking back over the past month or so it has been a steep learning curve. I had a lot of help with my forward plan from my stage partners and my 0.3 which was fantastic as I was really unsure when faced with this blank file.

I have started organising my own CPD by arranging visits to different stages and observing various lessons. This has been a great experience so far and I will continue to do this over the next few weeks until the October holidays.

I had my first observation and the feedback was positive with so points to work upon.

I would really recommend staying on top of updating any CPD into the GTCS site. It all really build up and can be difficult to remember some of the areas covered.

Good to see so many other people blogging. I will try and keep this updated regularly if I have the time.

  • First week - Tick.

After completing the crazy year of post graduate primary I was looking forward to having my own class and doing things my own way.

This first week has past so quickly. It seems so long ago when I had my first in service day. During the in service day, I managed to speak with the teacher who would be my 0.3. I attended some whole school meetings and planned for the following first day with the pupils. My 0.3 is a great source of advice and without her I would be completely lost. I overly planned for the first day as I didn’t want to run out of work.

Before starting in school I visited the teacher resource centre and borrowed some books to plan a mini topic for the first few days. I decided upon a mini topic of Traditional stories (I have an infant class) and I planned a number of activities based around different books for the first week.

On the first day I was as excited as the pupils and I went to school about an hour early to get set up. I was a bit lost at times with where resources were but the pupils and other staff members kept me right. I set a number of routines which still need to be reinforced.

I now have my forward planner which I will begin to work on next week. I found it difficult to plan day by day and I prefer to have a plan for the week ahead.

I really enjoyed the week getting to know the class and the staff. It has been an exhausting few days. I feel I have hit the ground running and I cannot wait for the week ahead.
