Council Members

The 37 members of Council have a significant role to play in shaping the teaching profession of Scotland, maintaining and improving professional standards, and contributing to the development of teacher professionalism and Scottish education.

The Council has a significant role to play in shaping the teaching profession of Scotland and maintaining and improving professional standards.

Role of Council Members

Members of Council are governed by the GTC Scotland Code of Conduct and Membership Scheme and must at all times observe the highest standards of impartiality, integrity and objectivity in relation to the advice they provide.

Committees and Panels

Committees, sub-committees and panels meet as and when necessary for the transaction of their business which covers multiple functions and delegated responsibilities.

Council Elections

Council Elections take place every two years as part of the rolling programme where half of the members step down after completing their four year term.

Council Appointments

An Appointments Committee has been established which is made up of GTC Scotland registered teachers and lay members that are independent of GTC Scotland.

Appointments Committee Members

The Appointments Committee is an independent committee responsible for overseeing the appointment of individuals to serve on Adjudicating Panels and the independent Appeals Board and the appointment of seven Lay Council members.

Meetings and Minutes
