Chief Executive/ Registrar
|Ken is responsible for the leadership of the Council, for the management of its strategic direction, for the operational efficiency and performance of its functions and for the delivery of responsibilities and duties placed on it by statute or by Council decision. He is expected to promote professionalism in teaching and high standards in Council staff.
These duties are partly distributed across other managers who are accountable to the Chief Executive.
The Chief Executive is also the official correspondent of the Council in its dealings with:
- The Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament
- Employers and teachers
- Teacher Education Institutions
- Other public bodies within and outwith Scotland
- Members of the public
- The media
Director of Business and Finance
|Ronnie is responsible for running an effective and cost efficient organisation and for developing the strengths of Council staff. The role includes:
- Contributes to the setting of strategies which will ensure the successful delivery of the Council’s policies and vision
- Contributes to the development and implementation of operating plans that will deliver agreed strategies
- The management and development of the following departments:
- Office Management, including Facilities
- Risk Management
Director of Education, Registration and PLD
|Ellen is responsible for the development, promotion and implementation of the Council's educational policy and leads the Council's Education, Registration and Professional Learning team.
Director of Governance
|Irene is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the Council's governance policies and processes and overall delivery and performance in this area as well as the management of service complaints relating to the work of GTCS.
She also oversees:
- the delivery of the Fitness to Teach investigation process (along with the review and development of the Council's standard of professional conduct and framework on competence)
- Legal Services
- Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Records Management Compliance
as well as the management of staff and the direction of key areas of priority and practice related to the areas outlined in the above bullet points.
Director of Corporate Communications, Digital Development and HR
|Martin has responsibility for leading, co-ordinating and developing the strategic direction and planning of all internal and external communications functions; digital development (including the ICT strategy); Human Resources; and Customer Services; and for managing teams responsible for communicating the Council's strategic objectives in these areas.
He is accountable for the overall delivery, development and performance of the following functions, in no particular order:
- Corporate Communications
- Internal Communications
- Media Relations
- Social Media
- Digital Development
- ICT strategy
- Customer Services (including the Reception team)
- Human Resources
Senior Legal Adviser and Head of Adjudication Services
|As Head of Legal and Adjudication Services, Jennifer is responsible for the team that supports the adjudication of fitness to teach cases that have been referred for a hearing, as well as any internal appeal cases. Decisions in all of these cases are taken by (as appropriate) Fitness to Teach Panels or the Appeals Board (which are each comprised of a pool of independent members). The hearings and other procedures associated with the adjudication process are serviced throughout by a member of the Legal and Adjudication Services Team.
In addition, Jennifer is responsible for drafting the various Rules, constitutional and other legal documents that GTC Scotland requires to have in place with reference to its governing legislation.
