PVG Scheme overview

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme delivers on the provisions outlined in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) (Scotland) Act 2007. It will:

  • help to ensure that those who have regular contact with children and protected adults through paid and unpaid work do not have a known history of harmful behaviour.
  • be quick and easy to use, reducing the need for PVG scheme members to complete a detailed application form every time a disclosure check is required.
  • strike a balance between proportionate protection and robust regulation and make it easier for employers to determine who they should check to protect their client group.

The role of GTC Scotland

GTC Scotland has been liaising closely with the Scottish Government to ensure that we have procedures in place to make sure anyone going onto the register is also a scheme member.

We are currently developing our procedures so that anyone applying for registration will either have to be a scheme member or will be put into the scheme as part of the registration process.

John Adams, the Teacher Registration Manager who is managing the project said "The project is in the early stages, but as things develop we will keep teachers informed through Teaching Scotland, e-bulletins and our website. The project team is also working with other stakeholders - in particular the Scottish Government."
