Cancelling Registration and Retiring

If you are no longer teaching and would like to cancel your registration with GTC Scotland and be removed from the register, please confirm this in writing or by email registration@gtcs.org.uk.

Retired Teachers

Retired Teachers who do not wish to return to the classroom will have the option of being placed on a Retired Teachers List, outwith the register, for which no fee will be required.

The benefits of being on the Retired Teacher List are:

  • you will receive a copy of the  magazine
  • you will be kept informed of any major issues affecting the profession
  • to ensure equality and fair treatment for all teachers in keeping with the implementation of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
  • to make certain that the Enhanced Disclosure and notification procedures relating to our registration process are robust and consistent for all

From April 2007  if a teacher aged 65 or over wishes to continue to teach in any capacity, in addition to the requirement to be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, they will be required to pay the annual registration fee

Supply Teaching

Please note that if you are retired and wish to undertake any supply teaching you must maintain your registration by paying the annual registration fee.
