You are now three quarters of the way through your teacher training and should have completed your application for provisional registration. If you haven't applied for registration you should contact our Student Administrator at studentadmin@gtcs.org.uk.
The following information will help to make sure that you have submitted all of the required documentation to us to enable you to take up your Teacher Induction Scheme post in August 2010.
You can change your Teacher Induction Scheme preferences up to Friday 26 February 2010. If you wish to do this, please email studentadmin@gtcs.org.uk stating your full name, date of birth and your 5 revised preference choices.
We have identified a problem with some emails sent from Hotmail accounts. Essentially, our IT security system will block some emails, especially if they have gone through a proxy server. We would like to stress that this is not every email from a Hotmail account.
If you have recently sent an email to studentadmin@gtcs.org.uk requesting a change of preferences and you have not had any sort of acknowledgement from us, you should contact Student Administration on 0131 314 6045/6023 to ensure that any changes have been made.
If you have spent 3 months or more in a non UK country over the last 10 years, we will require an overseas criminal record check. This only applies if you have remained in the country for 3 months or more in one single period. An overseas criminal records check is also required for students who were born and have lived overseas until adulthood.
You should obtain an official statement confirming that you do not have a criminal record or criminal proceedings pending. This can be obtained from police of judicial authorities, government departments or your Home Embassy in the country or countries concerned. The police check should cover the entire country, not simply one state or province (e.g. FBI clearance for USA and RCMP clearance for Canada).
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) provides an Overseas Information Service. For overseas enquiries, phone 0870 909 0811, open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm.
If you prefer to send your enquiry online, go to General Enquiry Form, compete your personal details and select 'overseas' from the dropdown box.
If the country you are looking for is now listed, you may find the following website helpful: www.canadavisa.com.
We are pleased to announce that we will be launching MyGTCS accounts for all students over the next 7-10 days. MyGTCS is a password protected area of our website which will allow you to view the information we hold for you, and in some cases make instant changes to that information.
You will shortly receive a personal email giving you your username and password. Once you have that you will be able to login to MyGTCS. We will be using this area to pass on important messages and at the appropriate time you will be able to view your allocated local authority.
You will also receive a letter from us informing you of your allocated local authority and contact details of the person in that local authority who deals with probationer teachers and any queries you may have.
If you are eligible for the Teacher Induction Scheme 2010/11 you will receive your allocation letter by the end of May 2010. You will also receive an information leaflet showing, amongst other things, the dates of the local authority induction days. It's very important that you make every effort to attend your particular induction day because the local authority will be on hand to assist with any problems or issues that you might have.
The 2010 local authority dates are updated as we receive them. If your local authority has not given dates yet, please do keep visiting this page to check.
If you are training to be a dual qualified teacher, for example History and Modern Studies, you will have been entered onto the database with your first subject leading. In this example History, which is given to GTC Scotland by your university.
Your Teacher Induction Scheme allocation is also based on your first recorded subject and this information is already with the Scottish Government, It is not possible to change this sequence, so you will be allocated to your first recorded subject.
