Outcome of Assessment

The outcome of your assessment will be one of the following:

  • Offer of Full registration
  • Offer of Provisional registration - with a period of Probation to complete 
  • Refusal of registration 

Offer of Registration

Registration may be offered for one or more sectors or subjects and is subject to receipt of the following:

  • UK police clearance through Disclosure Scotland
  • Overseas criminal record checks (if applicable)
  • Satisfactory references covering relevant teaching experience
  • Any additional documentation as required e.g. BA QTS, B Ed, or PGCE Certificate if still studying at time of application.

If we offer you registration you will be asked to pay an initial registration fee. Once we receive payment, we will  send you a registration pack containing:

  • Your GTC Scotland Registration Number
  • If applicable, information on your probationary service and additional requirements
  • Your Teachers Certificate of Registration

Refusal of Registration

We may refuse registration in a requested sector or subject. However, you will be offered comprehensive advice and guidance as to how registration can be obtained in the future.

Appealing against a decision

You will be informed in writing if you have a right of appeal.

Applicants with the right of appeal against a decision have 28 days from the date of refusal to lodge their appeal in writing. Appeals are heard by the Council's Committee on Exceptional Admissions to the Register.
