How to Apply

If you meet the eligibility criteria you should:

  • Download and complete the Application Form
  • Gather the required documentation
  • Attach the non-refundable £55   to your application. The assessment fee will increase to £60 from 1 April 2010.
  • Send all of the above to:

The Teacher Registration Department (EAR)
GTC Scotland
Clerwood House

Important: You must obtain and include with your application all the required documentation. Failure to do this will result in your application being delayed. It may also lead to your application being closed and destroyed. If this happens you will be required to re-apply and you will be treated as a new applicant who will be required to complete another application form, provide supporting documentation and pay the non-refundable assessment fee.

References

We will require the names and addresses of two referees who can comment on your teaching service in the subject and sector you wish to teach. One of your referees must be in a position to comment on your most recent employment. We will send out the necessary reference forms for your referees to complete on receipt of your Application for Registration. All reference forms are required to be countersigned by the Head Teacher.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your named referees are willing and able to write a reference on your behalf. If either of your nominated referees fail to respond or supply an incomplete reference report, you will be placed on probation for the standard probationary period. This is 270 days of full-time equivalent teaching (or 190 days of continuous teaching in one school) in the relevant subject and sector.

Please note that we cannot accept references from supply/employment agencies.

Note: All references must be in English. If your documentation is in a language other than English, you must supply photocopies of this documentation in the original language and certified English translations (prepared and certified by an account translator).

The www.atc.org.uk can tell you about translation companies.

What happens next?

Upon receipt of your completed application form, documentation and fee, we will start the  assessment process and make a decision.
