To be eligible to teach in Scotland you should have a relevant degree and have completed teacher education which extends to SCQF level 9 or above and is comparable in organisation and content to the Scottish initial teaching qualification (the PGDE) which is one academic year in length and includes professional studies, subject studies, and teaching practice.
An acceptable degree is a UK degree or UK degree equivalent, having completed a period of higher education at a university or equivalent institution of at least three years' duration (either full-time or part-time equivalent). A degree shall be regarded as a UK degree equivalent if it is recognised as such by the UK National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC).
Registration is available in two sectors:
You may wish to contact the National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) to determine the academic level of your qualifications in comparison with UK qualifications. Please note that we will also carry out a comparison as part of the assessment.

Taking this into account, the Council decided that provided that all other criteria had been met, holders of such qualifications could be considered for provisional registration. The period of probationary service is intended to be used to address the shortfall in the missing age ranges.
