Top Tips for Teachers

A new, fun book giving teachers some top advice has been launched in bookshops across the UK. Sponsored by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and written by their Head of Communications Glenise Borthwick, 'Top Tips for Teachers' will donate all profits from sale of the book to charity 'Education Action'.Cover image from the Top Tips For Teachers book

Education Action focuses its education work in former war-torn countries and with refugees from war in the UK. They concentrate on quality and innovation to help change the world for those who need education to help them play their part in society. The charity works in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Sudan and Palestine helping to support fragile education systems.

The book aims to keep teachers organised, calm and motivated. It does this with humour and understanding. With witty illustrations from Bob Dewar, one of the UK's top satirical cartoonists, the book aims to become a must for anyone wanting to find ways of coping in the classroom. The 100 tips came from 20 year's experience of teaching in the classroom and are funny, yet informative.

Top Tips for Teachers is available at all good bookstores now. GTC Scotland hope that teachers across the UK will support the charity and buy the book direct from publisher Luath Press.

Tips from the Book

Be thankful for the staffroom

Teaching was never going to be the career with long lunches and champagne receptions. Make the most of staffroom lunches and in-service scones and cups of tea. Join the Hobnob club and appreciate the joys of a biscuit.

Graffiti is not the new art form

Watch out for graffiti in the classroom. It's like a rash and will spread if you do not control it. Keep clearing it up. Do not weaken to the idea that graffiti is the new art. Your room is not a gallery. Self expression should be kept within the confines of the curriculum.
