The Ministerial Response to the Guidelines and Standards for Initial Teacher Education and Full Registration - Stage 2 consultation challenged the Scottish Government Education Department (SEED) and the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) to review the Professional Standards for teachers.

A decision was taken that this also presented an opportunity to review and update the Guidelines for Initial Teacher Education Courses in Scotland which had last been published in 1998.

At its December 2006 meeting, GTC Scotland approved the attached document, with Ministerial approval given in March 2007.
