Leadership Discussion Paper

The Leadership Discussion Paper (pdf) is our response the Scottish Executive's Thinking on the Leadership Agenda (Executive Website) as set out in its Ambitious, Excellent Schools Standard for Headship.

We welcome the opportunity to comment on this paper as the issue of leadership is central to the success of schools and to the delivery of the Executive's educational agenda.

The paper has been discussed by the Education Committee on Thursday 1 September 2005 and by full Council on Wednesday 28 September 2005 and the issues raised in this response have been organised under the same headings as the paper:

• putting the programme of leadership development in context
• creating focus for the programme of leadership development
• focusing on leadership priorities
• strengthening and extending leadership development activity

• actions of the leadership agenda
